Where I come from and where I'm going
I grew up in the suburbs of Houston. My dad is from the east coast and my mom is from Texas, I've got a sister in Colorado and two cousins's in California, so I do a lot of traveling when I can to see everyone. I now reside in the lovely little oasis of San Marcos, where I study public relations/mass communication and psychology at Texas State University.
I have had two internships since I moved to San Marcos. When I was a sophmore/junior I interned at Captive Music Group, a record label and audience managment company that works with artists and bands all over the world. Captiva holds an unofficial showcase at the SXSW festival every year for their bands to share their music at one of the biggest and most talked about festivals in music. My duties at Captiva were comprised of writing press releases, helping design and distribute promotional materials and event planning. I learned a lot about how to plan an execute live music events and enjoyed the experience a great deal. I also interned at the Central Texas Medical Center, Hospice Department. I worked for the director of public relations for Hospice. Here, I also did a lot of event planning, but this time for non-profit so it was a very different experience. It involved a lot of going out to businesses and finding sponsorships, as well as auction items and entertainment for events. It was a lot of hard work but it always paid off in the end, knowing you've raised a lot of money for a good cause.
After I graduate I would like to move to Austin and use my mass communication degree to get a job that facilitates art and creativity in the community. Visual and performing arts are two of my passions. One of my favorite places in Austin is the Paramount State Theatre and I think that would be a very exciting organization to work for someday.
